Abstract:

University of Detroit Mercy students take different team roles in the Freshmen Design Course Civil & Environmental Engineering Project. Students take roles of consulting firm owner, Professional Engineer, Engineer-in-Training, and coop student. The students divide their project responsibilities into conceptual areas such as planning, environmental design, structural design, construction management and CAD. The team works together in a model of behavior which follows actual engineering work conditions more closely. Discussed will be the effects on student learning, specifically, whether all students learn all concepts in a project or only the concepts related to their portion of the work.
